The competition will start in Koper, a lovely Slovenian sea-side town, whose Italian name, Capodistria, is derived from one of its previous names – Caput Histriae, meaning "Capital of Istria". The old town and its medieval architecture can be seen form the Ukmar Square, which will serve as the star and finish of the 1.9-kilometre swimming part of the competition.  

90.1-kilometre cycling tour will take the athletes through two countries, Slovenia and Italy. The first stage will take the competitors through the Koper old town, from where they will continue to Ankaran. Soon after, the athletes will cross the state border between Slovenia and Italy and ride along the Italian coast for some time. When back in Slovenia, the competitors will climb to Osp, one of the oldest Slovenian villages, featuring lovely stone houses and picturesque streets. Next, they will ride over two additional hills in the Istrian countryside, and then the course will finish with a long descent, where the athletes will be able to enjoy in the view of the famous Slovenian tourist destinations – Koper, Izola and Piran.

The competition will be concluded with two laps of running, 21.1km altogether. The running course will run through the centre of Koper and afterwards along the road by the coast to Izola and back. The entire course has no significant elevation, as its highest point lies only 5 metres above the sea level. The finish line will be located at the Koper promenade, right by the sea.
